Our topic is Modals, these are very vital role play in english language and very helpful for us either in terms of fluency in english language or ability.
So, there is a question, What are modals and how these modals are useful for us?
These are very helpful in among aspects.
these are used for expressing anything either any possibility, obligation or to give any advice, strong belief, ability.
these are also used for polite request(formal way or informal way).
There are vital and total only thirteen modals, which are following as :-
(can, could, would, shall, will, dare, need, ought to, used to, may, might, must, should)
("These are also called as auxiliary verb.")
There are modals, which are following as :-
(a). May :- it tell us about probably condition, which means anything with some possibility.
Whereas, Might seem as same as may. But, it tell us about probably condition with less possibility.
For example :-
It may rain.
(dense cloud have some chances to rain)
It might rain.
(clear sky have less chances to rain)
Ram may play cricket before the rain.
(cloud are not dense, there are chances for play cricket)
(b). May :- it also used for taking any type of permission with polite request in a formal way.
Whereas, Can used to tell anything with informal way.
For example :-
May he come in.
(it shows respect towards other)
Can he come in.
(it shows only formality towards other)
May Ram play cricket.
(it used for respect towards other)
(c). Could :- it use for tell us the ability of any person or thing. but in past form (it is past form of modal "can").
Similarly, Can use to tell us the ability of any object, person or thing with strong belief.
For example :-
He can read many languages.
(it shows capability of the person)
Shyam could read many newspaper.
(it shows capability but in past form)
Ram can play cricket with perseverance.
(it shows capability with belief towards ram)
(d). Could :- it use to put request towards anyone without knowing capability of other.
Similarly, Would use to put request towards anyone with very polite way or depend upon capability of other.
(both these depend upon particular situation.
As, "could" probably show respect with formal way.
however,"would" show more respect but with some informal way.)
For example :-
Could he lend him that newspaper?
(it tells with estimation without know him)
Would he lend him that newspaper?
(it tells simply only to know him)
Would you closing the vicecity game?
(it tells with care and affection)
(e). Shall :- it uses to tell or know any type of possibility but in the form of future tense.
Similarly, Would also uses to tell or know any type of possibility but chances are more and with similar form of tense.
For example :-
Our country shall win that match.
(if we do not have full perseverance .)
Our country will win that match.
(Usually, we use this for motivate ourselves.)
Ram shall play the cricket match.
(when, we do not have any idea or perseverance.)
(f). Should :- it uses for give any advice to other person and Ought to use to give moral values, obligations.
Similarly, Must uses to give strong advice for obeying any of the laws or rules.
For example :-
He should read the newspaper.
(it shows us giving advice)
Shyam ought to care of modi movement.
(it shows us giving suggestion)
Ram must learn from his homework.
(it use for giving strong advice)
(h). Used to :- it usually tell us about any of habit either our or anyone. and used for any sentence complete but in past form.
For example :-
He used to read a newspaper.
(it tells about habit of him)
Shyam used to live in zimbava.
(it tells about his previous place)
Ram used to play computer games.
(it tells about his habit)
